Rotting Reads 2019: DC Heroes and Dead Meat

2019 gave us a strong variety of zombie tales, with superheroes, survival horror, and indie grit all making their mark. Some reads were entertaining side dishes, while one in particular stood tall as the year’s defining undead masterpiece.

4. Dead Meat: Day 3 by Nick Clausen
The Dead Meat saga continued with intensity, but Day 3 leaned heavily on setup rather than payoff. The tension was there, but the pacing lagged behind earlier entries.

3. Dead Meat: Day 2 by Nick Clausen
A stronger installment, Day 2 raised the stakes with grittier survival horror moments. Clausen knows how to create atmosphere, even if the characters sometimes get overshadowed by the bleakness of the world.

2. DCeased: A Good Day to Die by Tom Taylor
This one-shot spin-off expanded the scope of the DCeased universe, showing how other heroes tried (and mostly failed) to stop the undead plague. A thrilling tie-in, though it lacked the weight of the main series.

1. DCeased by Tom Taylor
The standout of 2019. Taylor delivered a chilling, heartfelt apocalypse that forced beloved heroes into impossible choices. With jaw-dropping moments, emotional depth, and stunning art, DCeased didn’t just raise the bar—it redefined what superhero horror could be.

2019 belongs to DCeased. Dark, devastating, and unforgettable, it was the year’s ultimate zombie experience.
