Casting the perfect actress for Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm, is no easy task. First introduced in Giant-Size X-Men #1 (1975) by writer Len Wein and artist Dave Cockrum under Marvel Comics, Storm quickly became one of the most influential characters in comic history. As one of the first major Black female superheroes, she has served as the X-Men’s leader, a goddess, and even a queen. Her presence has shaped Marvel’s universe, breaking barriers in representation. With a live-action adaptation in mind, choosing the right actress is crucial to capturing her strength, wisdom, and commanding presence on screen.
She was played by Hally Berry in X-Men (2000), X2: X-Men United (2003), X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). Alexandra Shipp took on the role in X-Men: Apocalypse (2016) and Dark Phoenix (2019), portraying a younger version of the character.
These are our four picks:
- Anna Diop
- DeWanda Wise
- Janelle Monae
- Naomie Harris
